Some Cloudy Day

So I have started knitting the Some Cloudy Day legwarmers by TinyOwlKnits, these are my train journey knitting project and I'm nearly half way through the first one. They are made from Jaeger Matchmaker Merino scored in a charity shop in town. I cast on 72 stitches and am using 4.5mm needles as I have fat legs. They are fun and simple but I have made some mistakes which I can't be bothered to correct they just add to the feel of them. Salto is on the shelf for the moment but I was enjoying it and I think I will again. I'm just really tied up with Uni at the moment which is so interesting that everything else kind of takes a back seat.

Busy, Busy, Busy

It's been a hectic couple of days. Friday was my last day of work and I'm so very glad as the work was mind numbingly boring and so bloody stressful. Thursday night I baked and I baked hard, I made a Battenburg, a gorgeous chocolate cake (Nigella Lawson never lets me down), a madera cake and some chocolate, walnut & maple syrup swirls (a bit like cinnamon buns). I really enjoy baking and though it was a little stressful I really loved it. Saturday I went to see my Mum and we went shopping for clothes for Uni. I also brought a car which is good as it is needed but was kind of brought for me by accident. A lot of knitting on Salto was done on the train to and from seeing my Mum. For now I have to go and prepare for tomorrow, I'm so excited.

Peace.

Today

  • I have a rotten stinking cold but feel too guilty not to go to work as I only have 1 1/2 days left
  • Cleaned out my desk at work, this was sad, well when I say sad I don't really mean it I mean 'Hell yeah I'm out of here!'
  • I'm nearly to the shaping part on Salto, it's moving along and I'm still enjoying it
  • I'm now going to get into PJ's because this cold is horrible!

Socks

What is it about socks? I love wearing socks, even in summer I like wearing them. I don't like my feet so anything covering them is a good thing. When I was little I would religiously wear socks to bed. Now I can knit socks I do enjoy wearing handknit ones but I'm very slow at making them, I find the monotony of them boring. However I will soon be making 3 hour round trips into London when I start my course therefore this should give me ample time to knit the most transportable of projects. My DB will love this as he loves handknit socks.

I started a new pair yesterday, meet Salto by Rebekkah Kerner from Knitty Spring 2008:

It is knitted in Fabel by Garnstudio brought at Scandinavian Knitting Design. It is a really nice sock yarn and very affordable, that's why I went and brought 8 balls of it!

I have a thing about sock yarn, it really is my only stash I don't seem to stash other yarns. Maybe it's the colours, the feel, I really couldn't say except I've never met a sock yarn that I haven't liked. I'm coveting the Socktopus website at the moment because it has duet sock yarn, it's a bit pricey but so yummy.

Anyway I have been fiddling with this blog for ages now, I'm amazed how much time it takes. I'm off to rest my cold ridden head.

FO!

So last night I actually finished something. I finished the Jaywalker socks using Silkwood sock Yarn in the Plum Wine colourway. This is a really great sock yarn, the colours are so vibrant and it's very soft and warm.

Sorry about the fatty legs!

Next up is one of my first FO's which has never been photographed until now, it's Willow by Louisa Harding but done with a few minor adjustments. No pockets, no belt, the buttons didn''t really do up very well so I use the broach.

I'm working on a couple of things at the moment but nothing really to show for it. For now it's just lots of knitting without much to show.

Peace

Exciting Times, New Beginnings and Yes I deleted EVERYTHING!

So, where to start. It's been a very long time since I wrote anything on this blog. I usually just use it to link to other people's blogs that I use but the sun is shining and I'm feeling in the mood. I hear you ask what has been going on?

Well in a week I get to finish at my current job and start a course to train to be a midwife. I'm very very excited but also scared out of my brain. That's the major thing in my like now, but this is not a life style blog it's a knitting blog or is it a crafting blog because I also taught myself how to quilt a couple of months ago. I have a major case of startitis at the moment. So here is a list (not a conclusive one) of finished and in progress projects:

Finished
  • Juno (love) - Rowan
  • Cobblestone (love) - Interweave Knits
  • Hela - Icelandic lopi zipped cardigan (ugh) - Free pattern
  • Equinox Pullover (love) - Interweave Knits
  • Willow (love) - Louisa Harding
  • Shrub (love) - RYC
  • Butterfly (not sure) - Noro
  • Simple Knitted Bodice (too big) - Stefanie Japel
  • Sasha (he didn't like it) - Rowan
  • Mystery Waters Lace Shawl (love) - KAL
  • February Baby Sweater (loved so much I'm making several) - Elizabeth Zimmerman
  • Various socks all loved

Unfinished

This list is too big and somethings I'm not sure I will complete but two things that I'm working on at the moment are Miss Marple and 103-1 Jacket in Eskimo or Silke-Alpaca with A-shape by DROPS design.

As I said I have a major case of startitis at the moment so I don't know where that will lead.

Well today is sunny and I have some work to do.

Peace
